THE WAR IN LOUISIANA

INTEGRATION 1

Learning Outcome

TLW explain the reasoning behind the fall of New Orleans and Baton Rouge.


Teaching Strategy

Students will review part one of the unit’s vocabulary terms. Some of the terms included are: fire-eaters, bounty, conscription, campaign, guerrilla.



Technology Integration

Students will use Quizlet to review vocabulary terms with their peers. Then, as a class, students will engage in vocabulary games in Quizlet such as Gravity and Match that will test their knowledge in a collaborative way.

INTEGRATION 2

Learning Outcome

TLW explain the reasoning behind the fall of New Orleans and Baton Rouge.


Teaching Strategy

Students will take notes and follow along with the lecture. Auditory learners benefit from listening to the lecture. Visual learners benefit from having a copy of the lecture slides. Kinesthetic learners benefit from writing down their notes.


Technology Integration

Students will use their iPad to take notes using OneNote. As the lecture is being presented, students will have access to the lecture slides on their devices if they would like to mark them. Also, students will be assessed during the lecture using Kahoot!. After they respond to the question, they can see whether they got the answer correct or incorrect as well as the class's overall performance. 

INTEGRATION 3

Learning Outcome

TLW analyze the geographical importance of New Orleans.


Teaching Strategy

Students will work together on a mapping exercise on the Civil War battles.




Technology Integration

Students will use National Geographic's MapMaker Interactive to explore the area of New Orleans. A map will be provided to them on their iPad that will allow them to explore the area and discover tips/facts.
